The proper temperature to keep the wine is the range between 13-15 oC. Within this range of temperatures, chemical reactions that spoil wine, cannot take place. The relative humidity within the cellar should be around 70-80% for long-term wine storage.

A mormal house air conditioner is not designed to be used in a wine cellar . The major technical difference between a house air-conditioner and a cellar air-conditioner is first, the way they manage humidity and second,  the set temperatures.

The house air conditioner is designed to cool the air down to approximately 20oC and to leave the air almost completely dry.

On the contrary, a cellar air conditioner, is designed to keep the temperature in the cellar within the range 10-15oC and also to keep the existing humidity within the cellar . It is therefore of primary importance for a cellar air conditioner to manage humidity and temperature within the proper levels for keeping wines. At this stage it must be stressed that if within a certain cellar the relative humidity is lower than the required level, a cellar air conditioner which is not equipped with a humidifier can not raise the humidity. One needs either a special cellar humidifier or has to employ other methods to raise the humidity, like for example a bucket full of water.

FRIAX gives the option for a special humidifier to be incorporated within the air conditioner. The cellar air conditioners can be classified in two categories: the monobloc and the split type.

In the monobloc units the compressor and evaporator are both contained in the same enclosure. The

unit is installed as is on one of its walls . The main advantage of this system is that the  installation is easy and can be undertaken by any person who has basic skills and tools . The negative side is that monobloc units cannot be installed close to bedrooms, sitting rooms and other areas where people sit to relax, because the noise from the compressor and the cooling fan can be sometimes annoying.

In the FRIAX split type units the compressor and evaporator are installed separately from one another. The evaporator is installed on the cellar ceiling or wall and the compressor is installed outside the cellar at a point where noise will not disturb the tenants. In addition split type units can be designedto cool much bigger spaces than monobloc units can do. The installation of these units, though, may be done only by a refrigerator technician and in addition, copper pipes have to be installed in order to interconnect the compressor and the evaporator.

We use a specially developed software to make an as accurate as possible study for each cellar that takes into consideration factors such as : wall material, insulation material properties, temperature and humidity outside cellar, cellar target temperature, total bottles permanently stored and also bottles that are brought daily into the cellar, the door dimensions, heat produced by the cellar lights etc.
